New Jack’s store set to open across the UK

Eight out of 10 food and drink products at new discount chain Jack’s will be grown, reared or made in Britain.

Tesco has launched its new Jack\'s stores which are set to rival the offering of existing discount supermarkets, Aldi and Lidl.

The food retailer opened the first two Jack’s stores in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire and Immingham, Lincolnshire during September and plans to launch a further 10 to 15 stores in the UK over the next six months.

The new stores have been named after Jack Cohen, the founder of Tesco, who was known as ‘slasher Jack’ for his pile it high and sell it cheap approach to retailing, and marks the beginning of Tesco’s 100-year celebration of supplying great value

"Jack’s will proudly support Britain\'s food-producing communities. Eight out of 10 food and drink products at Jack’s will be grown, reared or made in Britain and stores will stock a unique own brand range, also named Jack’s as a mark of quality and value," said the company in a statement announcing the launch.

The new stores could provide opportunities for British farmers and those who are producing value-added produce through their own farm diversification projects.
