Millennials vs cheese

Industry research reveals younger adults really do love cheese.

While many dairy products have been under-fire recently, The Agricultural Horticultural Development Board (AHDB) has published a report highlighting how cheese bucks this trend.

The findings show that 90% of households buy the dairy product with many associating cheese as a good source of calcium (54%) and protein (38%), as well as it meeting the sought-after attributes of food being enjoyable, less processed and filling.

Although cheese has grown in popularity across most age groups, those aged between 16 and 34 seem to be most partial with many of them choosing to feature cheese as an ingredient in meals and snacks.

Italian food, pizza and Mexican food are the top food choices among millennials which feature cheese as a core ingredient.

The artisan nature of many types of cheese also appeals to millennials meaning they can be curated and Instagrammed, much in the same way as baked sweet treats, elegant evening meals and fresh fruit and vegetables.

For those considering starting a new business, adding to existing product lines or looking to diversify the farm business, could this be what you have been waiting for?
