Tesco launches sixth Future Farming Programme

Applications for the 2018-19 Future Farmer Foundation are now open, with 50 places available for those looking to develop a career in agriculture or aquaculture.

Founded in 2014 the programme was established to support and inspire young people in UK and Irish farming with the fifth programme intake currently well underway.

Those between the ages of 20-35 from all farming sectors, including new entrants and next generation farmers, are invited to apply.

To date, 250 young farmers have participated in the programme with 50 places available on the next 12-month programme which will start in January 2019. The programme is very much based on what young farmers need to build their careers and includes core elements such as; business planning, leadership skills and personal development. 

Key information:

  • The programme is fully funded by Tesco
  • Application deadline is Friday 28 September 2018
  • A diverse range of activities are organised to develop personal skills and industry knowledge, including:
    • 26 supply chain visits across a variety of farming sectors
    • Five workshops which address the challenges for young people in agriculture; succession planning, finance, business plans, obtaining land, succession planning, sustainability and leadership training
    • An alumni event
    • Peer and industry mentor opportunity – Each Future Farmer will be matched with an individual peer mentor as well as the opportunity to be matched with a mentor within the agri-food industry
  • Each intake has the opportunity to access a £10,000 training fund in order to upskill and develop themselves and their business
