Cheshire farm shop wins British Farming Award

The Lambing Shed Farm Shop and Café has been announced as this year’s winner of the British Farming Awards, Diversification Innovator Category (large).  

The awards ceremony held last night (Thursday) was attended by over 700 farmers and was a true testament showcasing the innovation and achievements of British farmers across the agricultural industry.

The evening was organised by AgriBriefing, the parent company of Farmers Guardian, Dairy Farmer and Arable Farming, and the 14 awards welcomed entries from across farming’s core sectors including beef, arable, machinery, agricultural students and diversification.

The Lambing Shed impressed the judges due to the diversification project still having the core farming business at its heart, and the knowledge and awareness founder Kathryn Mitchell communicated about current and future consumer trends. Both of these factors highlighted how sustainable the farm shop and the farm are and will remain going forward.

Runner-up of this category was GG’s yard, run by Duncan and Vicki McConchie, who also impressed the judges with their desire to support the local economy and expand the business based on the wish to meet the requirements of their customers.

Rosie Hopkins, business manager of The Business Barn and one of the judges of this category said, “All the entrants were real contenders. Each business showcased their passion and knowledge of the industries they have diversified into while still retaining their agricultural roots.

“Everyone of the shortlisted businesses should be very proud of what they have achieved and how far they have come.”
